  Detail of landscape painting

Clare Maynard

Clare Maynard's work is experiential, her paintings are based on journeys which are closely informed by travel and also circumstances which are not necessarily planned. The environs which she has recorded in paintings over the years range from East Africa to parts of Europe such as Berlin and the Czech Republic, the landscapes are often remote or unusual in some aspect of their history. This Wales based artist always returns home- as she perceives it, and builds upon her exhibitions to include the landscape of mid-Wales of which she is so familiar. Her exhibitions are currently being developed for Wales' arts centres and a government building in central Berlin for 2011.

'Clare' s paintings and photographs have an ethereal quality, in the cityscapes there is a sense of something unspoken, a fleeting quality that invites the viewer to reflect on the fabric of reality. Her ability to perceive these transitory moments, which enhance the unspoken, mysterious quality in her work, is very special.'
